The spectacular coastline is popular for many water sport activities such as surfing, windsurfing, fishing and sailing.
Sailing is an extremely popular pastime, the favourite venues being, Redcar’s Majuba beach, Scaling Dam and the South Gare, located at the mouth of the Tees.
Redcar’s Majuba beach area is sailable in almost any wind direction. Majuba faces north/northeast and receives cross-shore conditions, giving good flat water blasting.
South Gare is a lagoon in the mouth of the Tees, which provides a safer sailing venue if the onshore swell at Redcar is too high.
Scaling Dam offers the beginner and the more experienced the chance to try their hand at sailing in a safe environment.
The surf at Saltburn is reputed to be some of the best outside Cornwall, Saltburn Surf Shop is open most days throughout the year and can offer lessons, board hire and sales.
National events are held during the autumn and winter months attracting competitors from all corners of England, Scotland and Wales.
