Our magnificent coastline is the perfect haven for watersport enthusiasts, surfers flock from all over the country to sample the waves at Saltburn. National events and competitions are held during the autumn and winter months. Whilst you have got your wetsuit on why not experience the depths of the sea, Redcar has become a popular destination for diving devotees, especially due to the numerous wreak which lie along the coast. Favourite launching sites are located at Redcar Slipway.

If you rather stay on dry land and want to get closer to nature, the borough has an outstanding diversity of habitats. The high cliffs of the Heritage Coast are home to a vast array of seabirds, during the summer months and a vast area of Guisborough's Woodland has a varied and plentiful bird population. For the more serious bird watcher, the South Gare at the mouth of the river Tees frequently records national rarities such as Shrike, Paddy-field Warbler and Thrush Nightingale.

Horse RidingEnjoy the coast and countryside either on foot, by bike or on horse back. Attractive views over Guisborough and Roseberry Topping make this a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. Local riding centres offer schooling and hacking facilities and have weekly hacking along the beaches of Marske and Saltburn and up into the countryside with views over the surrounding area.
