Guisborough....

Gisborough PrioryThe ancient market town of Guisborough holds many hidden gems to delight every visitor.

In 1119 AD, Robert De Brus founded and lavishly endowed a priory for Augustinian canons at Guisborough. This monastery became one of the most powerful in Yorkshire and dominated the life and fortune of both the town of Guisborough and the surrounding area throughout the middle Ages.

Today the remains of the tall tower of Gisborough Priory sits admirably within the town, offering an outstanding example of gothic architecture.

Roseberry ToppingGuisborough’s vast woodland provides inspiring views over Roseberry Topping; the forest is an ideal location to explore the surrounding countryside, making this a popular destination for walkers and cyclists

The forest offers three dedicated cycle routes and are of differing ability and gradients, each route is waymarked for your ease. There are many other non-waymarked bridleways throughout the forest, which are suitable for the more experienced rider.

Experience the traditional markets, which have been held along the cobbled streets for over 600 years.

Guisborough Market CrossGuisborough market held every Thursday and Saturday, has long been a focal point of the surrounding area. Originally selling cows and other livestock, the market has gradually developed into a hubbub of fruit and vegetables, clothes and flower stalls.

To complement the traditional market, the town holds a monthly ‘Speciality Market’ every 2nd Saturday in the month and every 1st Saturday in the month at Pinchinthorpe Hall. Stalls include home made preserves, pies, cheese, organic vegetables, handicrafts and much more.

The cobbled Westgate is a mixture of well-known and independent specialist shops. The town attracts visitors from many parts of the region due to its charm and character.
