Type: Self-Catering

Argument Cottage (named after a local family) is located at Northgate, two minutes from the town centre. The property is a former miner's cottage, completely refurbished within the last two years, and retaining many original features.

Sleeping four, it is an ideal base for exploring not only Cleveland's ancient capital Guisborough, but also the surrounding areas-including the North York Moors National Park, Captain Cook Country, Heartbeat Country, the Cleveland Way Walk, Whitby, many other coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay and much more.

Guisborough itself has much to offer the visitor. The XII Century Priory ruins dominate the town and are certainly worth a visit. The main hub of activity today, however, is Westgate, a cobbled, thriving, bustling street of shops, pubs, restaurants and businesses.

There is a market every Thursday and Saturday, with speciality markets, such as the French Market and Farmers' Markets, visiting regularly. The surrounding area offers much in the way of entertainment and leisure, with walks and cycle rides within the Guisborough Forest; there is sailing at Scaling Dam and surfing, fishing and golf at nearby Saltburn.

Within a few miles of Guisborough the visitor has many choices. Half an hour in the car will take you to the ancient port of Whitby, where you will also find Argument's Yard. You may also admire the statue of Captain Cook, eat in one of the many fish restaurants or simply enjoy the view from the top of the 199 steps leading to Whitby Abbey-try counting them! Any 'Dracula' fans will know where he made landfall in the 'Demeter' on Tate Hill Sands, in the form of a black dog! Watch out for one recently spotted on Church Street.

Many of the North's greatest cities are also within one hour's drive of Guisborough. Durham was one of the early centres of Christianity in Britain and its Cathedral is one of the finest medieval monuments in the world. York also has a hugely important part in world history-the Roman capital of Northern Britain, the city in which the Emperor Constantine the Great declared the Empire to be Christian-its history stretches back over 2,000 years.

More recent attractions are also numerous.
Newcastle is a vibrant metropolis one hours' drive away. The Quayside, Baltic Arts Centre, Sage Music Centre, Tyne Bridge and award winning 'Blinking Eye' Millennium Bridge, are just some of the sights to see.

Anyone who loves Premiership and European football can go to the magnificent Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough to experience top quality entertainment. The other great North East Teams-Newcastle, Sunderland, Darlington and Hartlepool - all doing very well, have stadiums nearby!

Argument Cottage has all the facilities provided, allowing you to fully enjoy your time in our beautiful part of England-we sincerely hope you enjoy your stay in Guisborough.
