Attractions

Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum

The museum is currently undergoing large development to provide greater accessibility. At present there are steps up from the car park to the main entrance, but wheelchair access is available from another entrance. Once inside the museum, a chair lift facility will be installed for movement to the first floor.

Kirkleatham Museum

The Museum has free car parking on site, with disabled bays and dropped curbs. There is an automatic door to the entrance of the museum and a lift to all floors. Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome in the museum and the on site café. The café has automatic doors and is on one level.

Saltburn Cliff Lift

The Cliff Lift has car parking on both the upper and lower promenade, with designated disable bays on the lower. The Cliff Lift has facilities for disabled visitors and provides access between the upper and lower promenade.

South Tees Motorsports Park

There is car parking on the site but no designated disabled bays, but there is a disabled toilet. The club house with bar and catering facilities has steps and no disabled access. Disabled visitors can participating in the Karting as there is a twin kart available for visitors to ride in as a passenger and the speedway has disabled access and a viewing area for up to 4 wheelchairs.

Beaches

Redcar & Cleveland's coastline stretches from the mouth of the Tees to the Heritage Coast of Staithes. We have one of the longest unbroken stretches of beach in the United Kingdom running from South Gare in the north-west to Saltburn in the south-east. The character of the coastline is one of astonishing contrasts - dramatic sea cliffs, sweeping bays and long stretches of sandy beaches.

Service dogs are permitted on the beaches.

An all-terrain wheelchair/scooter for use on the beach is available at Shopmobility, 3 - 4 Pybus Place, The Esplanade, Redcar, TS10 3AE.

Parks

Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park

There is a visitor centre on site the park boasts a variety of habitats including both deciduous and coniferous woodlands, grassland and ponds. These can be explored on the many walks available in the park.

A motorised buggy is available for use by people with mobility problems. The buggy can be used to explore the wider areas of the park. It is simple to use and a full demonstration is given to users. This service is free of charge although a small returnable deposit is required. Full details are available from the Visitors centre.

The visitor centre including parking, toilets and picnic area are all easily accessible.

Guisborough Forest & Walkway

Situated in Pinchinthorpe on the outskirts of Guisborough and gateway site to the North York Moors National Park, Guisborough Forest has a visitor centre on site along with walking and cycling routes that are wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

Saltburn Valley Woodland Centre

The Woodland Centre can be found at the end of the Valley Gardens and acts as a link through to Rifts Wood. There is disabled parking available near to the Woodland Centre.
